FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Focus on getting better, not on how to make ends meet.
- It is estimated that all overall costs for cancer in 2008 were at $228.1 billion; $93.2 billion for direct medical costs (for all health expenditures) and $18.8 billion for indirect costs of lost productivity due to illness according to the National Institutes of Health.
- Whether grouped by age, income, ethnicity, or race, women represent a disproportionate number of those in need. Single mothers and their children make up the majority of families living in poverty, in Dallas, in the State of Texas, and in the nation as a whole.
- About 17% of women said their savings would not last a week if they suddenly lost their incomes. Another 29% said their savings would last less than a month.
- Across the country, about 15.4 million women are uninsured; 11% or 1.7 million of those women live in Texas. Lack of insurance is a serious health problem in Dallas County.
